James Lee Pace, MD

Lee Pace, MD is an orthopedic surgeon and orthopedic sports medicine specialist with extensive experience in both practice and research. He treats children and adults with joint problems, sports injuries, and a host of other issues.

Professional Background

Dr. Pace earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Utah University and his MD from Boston University, graduating magna cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Washington where he received broad training in all aspects of orthopedic surgery, including trauma training at the world famous Harborview Medical Center. Next, he finished two fellowships – in pediatric orthopedics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/University of Southern California and in pediatric and adult sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Not only is Dr. Pace certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, but he has also been awarded a certificate of added qualification in orthopedic sports medicine by the same board. Additionally, Dr. Pace serves as the director of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Children’s Health Andrews Institute.

His clinical expertise is extensive and includes treatment of all aspects of sports medicine with a special focus on knee and , hip problems. Within this, Dr. Pace can offer unique and technically demanding treatments such as the trochleoplasty procedure for patellar instability, ACL reconstruction with the quadriceps tendon autograft and primary repair of select ACL tears, hip arthroscopy for labrum tears of the hip, meniscus transplantation, osteotomy, advanced repair techniques for articular cartilage defects, and surgical treatment of a whole host of sports-related injuries. Dr. Pace actively engages in research and is able to offer clinical trials to patients when appropriate, including novel treatments for osteochondritis dissecans. He has published papers in multiple medical journals and has lectured and presented research to his peers nationally and internationally.
